About this drink
The Americano is an espresso lengthened with hot water to roughly the strength of filter coffee. The name is usually traced to American soldiers in Italy during the Second World War, who diluted espresso to something closer to the coffee they drank at home. It keeps the espresso’s flavour, with a thinner body and most of the crema broken up.
