Coffee for journalists, for the six a.m. file and the late edit.

A journalist's day starts before the city's and ends after it. The coffee has to be quick, strong, and reliable, and it has to taste like something even on the fourth cup.

I roast for that. The beans are single origin from Karnataka, roasted after your order, and shipped within days of leaving the roaster.

A kitchen counter at dawn with a moka pot, a folded newspaper, and roasted beans

Coffee that files on time

The moka pot is the newsroom kitchen's honest tool, and the medium roast is made for it. For the desk late at night, the dark roast in a French press gives a full cup without the sharpness that comes from stale beans.

If you are on the road, the whole beans and a hand grinder travel well, and the bag reseals.

How the coffee reaches you

I buy green arabica from one small farm in the coffee hills of Karnataka, a few kilos at a time. I roast it at home on a small drum roaster, in batches of a few hundred grams, after my day job. I roast your bag after you order it, so it leaves within days of the roast and not months.

You choose light, medium, or dark, or you tell me the notes you like and I roast toward them. You can have whole beans, or tell me your brewer and I will grind for it. A 250 g bag is ₹750 and a 500 g bag is ₹1,200, with free shipping in India.

Who you are buying from

I am one person with a roaster in my kitchen. There is no team, no cafe, and no warehouse. When you write to me about a grinder or a shot that came out sour, I am the one who writes back, and I have made the same mistakes at my own counter.

Questions people ask

How long does delivery take?

I roast after you order, let the beans settle for a day, and hand the bag to the courier. Most cities in India receive it within a week of the order.

Is shipping really free?

Yes. Free shipping in India on every bag, 250 g or 500 g.

Which roast should I start with?

If you are unsure, start with the medium roast. It works in a moka pot, a French press, a pour-over, and an espresso machine, and it forgives a grind that is a little off.

The shop has the three roasts and the custom roast. If you are not sure, write to me at chanda.sayonsom@gmail.com and tell me how you brew.
